In 2011, the International Institute for Information Design was celebrating its 25th anniversary. While many things have changed since its founding, the aim of IIID was, and still is, to promote and expand design knowledge and research. Now, with 37 years of experience, IIID is recognized as the world leader in information design development. 2011, the time was ripe for us to acknowledge the best in what information design has to offer which is why we are presenting the inaugural IIID Awards competitions. The Awards competition are held every three years, with the next competition taking place in 2023 for its 5th edition.

  • Otto Neurath

    (1882 – 1945) was an Austrian-born philosopher of science, sociologist, and political economist. He was also the inventor of the ISOTYPE method of pictorial statistics and an innovator in museum practice.

  • Marie Neurath

    (born Reidemeister 1898 – 1986), was a German designer, social scientist and author. Marie renamed the Vienna Method of Pictorial Statistics to Isotype. and designed educational books for younger readers.

  • Peter Simlinger

    Peter founded the International Institute for Information Design (IIID) is Past-President of Design Austria (DA), past editor the Information Design Journal and currently managing director of IMPACT Design,.

  • The International Institute for Information Design (IIID) was founded in 1986 to stimulate the development, recognition and good practice of information design in its broadest sense. Over the last 30 years IIID has become one of the best-known names for developing the information design discipline worldwide. We have members and friends around the globe who are passionate about creating better information in many different areas of application.

  • IIID is an affiliate member of the International Council of Design—a global network that shares common issues, commitments and standards. Members create a unified voice for the global design community and drive a high level dialogue on the leading role design plays in society, culture and the economy. ICoD is the world’s largest representative of professional designer entities.

  • The Bureau of European Design Associations (BEDA)’s vision is for design to be embraced in Europe as a driver of sustainable growth and prosperity. BEDA boasts 54 members from 28 countries of Europe. BEDA is looking to the future with a new strategy to strengthen the perception of design across Europe

  • IIID is via designaustria an associated partner of the Design Intelligence Award (DIA) is an international academic award in industrial design established in China, 2015. It is a platform for evaluation, promotion and communication of design, an accelerator bringing innovation to the industry and the future.

  • IIID is partner of the New European Bauhaus initiative - a creative and interdisciplinary initiative that connects the European Green Deal to our living spaces and experiences.
    It calls on all of us to imagine and build together a sustainable and inclusive future that is beautiful for our eyes, minds, and souls.

  • Wuhan Institute of Technology, school of art and design (武汉工程大学, 藝術設計學院) focuses on cultivating designers, integrating teachers and students, and completing research projects. It has formed a unique school-running characteristic and takes four orientations for development. The college owns the Ecological Environment Design Research Center and has won the Provincial Award Teach. completing several research projects.

Austria’s reputation as a country in which culture plays a significant role is based on world-famous works by renowned artists from the fields of music, painting, literature and architecture. It is now being continued in a young and creative environment featuring contemporary art, theatre, film and design. A concept of the arts and culture which is open and unprejudiced encourages people to understand and experience the world, and to respect others.
