Olivier Arcioli

this interview found me in:
Düsseldorf, Germany

the last time I got lost in …:
…the woods. You think this only happens in fairy tales. This can also happen to you in the forests of Austria if you stray from the path and your mobile phone loses signal. But if you follow your instincts, observe the position of the sun and the time of day, you will find your way back. In the end, I would say it's good to leave the path, because it changes your perspective.

my favourite pictogram/sign is:
Meeting Point – possibly because of the concept of a designated or distinctive —easily recognizable location—where people can arrange to meet, gather, or encounter one another. I like the social, communicative, and connecting action behind this sign.

three numbers about myself:
3 cultures —German mother, French-Swiss father, born and raised in Colombia
2 countries—living and working in Germany and Austria
1 son (in adolescence)—the most challenging, inspiring and significant task at all

my preferred colour combination:
black and white According to Johannes Itten, black and white are non-colours.
In my perception, they are the absence and sum of everything and the strongest possible contrast.

something I would like to show:
After more than a decade of running the internationally hosted design seminars
"The Phaistos Project—Forty-five Symbols" the book “45 Symbols – From Clay to Code,” will be published by Slanted Publishers very soon.

my mission in the jury:
To make objective and fair decisions together with the jury members, to learn, to get inspired, to have fun and to share the mutual passion for information design.
